The long-awaited beta interface to EventBooking.com's software was released to selected clients June 20, 2008.
"The Beta release is intended to help us get feedback about the direction we're going with the application." Chief Technology Officer Rob Scott said. "We're not quite ready for full production with it, but it's stable and it's feature-completed enough to where people can actually put data on the site and see what the new user interface is going to look like. Right now we're looking at trying to get as much feedback as possible so we can continue to iterate our design to make sure that we are taking people's needs into account."
During the fall 2008, EventBooking.com will begin to migrate new and existing user accounts to the new interface.
"I have always been proud of our product, but this new release has been built on a completely new foundation that is going to give us the ability to greatly customize the user experience," company president John Platillero said. "It is also much more user friendly, faster and simply better than what we had."
Scott said that the new user interface, in addition to being completely redesigned is far more customizable. "In the past, for example, we had a fixed set of status codes that everyone had to use whether it corresponded to what they were used to using internally or not."
In the new system, customers will be able to create, rename, and recolor their own status codes and have the freedom to re-label almost anything in the system. For most event information, a simple click on a label opens a text box enabling hassle-free, on-the-spot edits.
The process of building a completely new user interface began 14 months ago in 2007. "We started trying to integrate a lot of the new stuff into the old application about 14 months ago," Scott said. "The legacy baggage in the application was just getting in our way so about eight months ago we started working from the ground up. And we've accomplished an amazing amount in eight months."
The beta launch follows two days after the work orientation of two new EventBooking employees--Tania Matthews and Chris Lamm. "With the new program launch, we anticipate lots of growth. The new people are going to help with that growth," Scott said.
