Thomas Alley plays a vital role at EventBooking—always ensuring our servers are up and running smoothly—and to say we’re thankful for that would be an understatement! Get to know this tech wizard and culinary aficionado in our latest Coffee & Conversation feature:
Q. What is your role at EventBooking and what do you like about that role?
A. I’m the Director of Technical operations—meaning, mostly, that I help keep our services up and running. Probably my favorite thing about the role is how well the entire EventBooking team comes together to build and support what we do.
Q. Describe your “perfect” meal, complete with dessert.
A. It’s hard to beat a sous vide beef tenderloin steak. Salt, pepper, and drop it into the bath at 130F for maybe four hours. Then give it a good cast iron sear in avocado oil.
Q.What’s something about you that might surprise people?
A. I really enjoy cooking!
Q. What something you know more about than most people?
A. Raising livestock—I grew up on a farm.
Q.What is one of your favorite places that you’ve traveled to? Why?
A. I got lost on some service roads in an RV near the Grand Canyon a few years ago with a couple of friends. I’ve never seen anything like the stars at night out there. It’s probably the most remote place I’ve visited.
Q.What’s your favorite movie? Favorite book (or favorite Artist/Band)
A. My favorite movie would be a tossup between Aliens and O Brother Where Art Thou. My favorite book is probably The Name of the Wind.
Q. If you could have dinner with one person (living or dead) who would it be?
A. Carl Sagan
Q.What’s something you’re passionate about?
A. My kids.
Q. What’s something you would tell yourself 10 years ago?
A. Buy a lot of Bitcoin.
Q.If you could master one skill you don’t have right now, what would it be?
A. Rock climbing! I admire the skill, courage, and fitness that entails.
Q.Who inspires you?
A. I’m going to go with Tom Merritt—he’s a great example of making a living doing what you love, and being a genuinely nice guy in the process.
